Are you trying to lose weight, gain muscle, or simply maintain a healthy lifestyle? Knowing your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the most important first step. Whether you prefer using standard measurements (Feet/Pounds) or metric measurements (Centimeters/Kilograms), our intuitive tool does all the complex math for you in real time!
What is Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)?
Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the total number of calories your body needs to perform its most basic, life-sustaining functions while you are completely at rest. This includes breathing, circulating blood, cellular growth, and maintaining your body temperature.
Even if you lay in bed all day and did absolutely nothing, your body would still burn the number of calories shown by your BMR score just to stay alive!
How to Use the BMR Calculator?
We designed our calculator to be fast, accurate, and completely hassle-free:

How is BMR Calculated? (The Formula)
Our calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation, which is currently recognized by health and fitness professionals as the most accurate formula for calculating BMR.
The formulas look like this:
- For Men: (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) – (5 × age in years) + 5
- For Women: (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) – (5 × age in years) – 161
Don’t worry about memorizing this math—our intelligent tool processes this equation instantly behind the scenes!
BMR vs. TDEE: What is the Difference?
It is important not to confuse BMR with your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE).
- BMR is the number of calories you burn doing absolutely nothing.
- TDEE is your BMR plus the calories you burn from daily movements, exercise, and digesting food (Maintenance Calories).
To find your TDEE, you simply take your BMR score and multiply it by an activity multiplier (e.g., multiply by 1.2 if you have a desk job, or 1.55 if you exercise moderately). If you eat fewer calories than your TDEE, you will lose weight!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Can I increase my BMR?
Yes! Because muscle tissue burns more calories at rest than fat tissue, building lean muscle mass through strength training is one of the most effective ways to naturally increase your Basal Metabolic Rate.
Does age affect my BMR?
Yes. As we get older, we tend to lose muscle mass, and our metabolism slows down. This is why the BMR formula subtracts points based on your age.
